Kent Werner

J. Kent Werner, Jr., MD PhD, is an active-duty Navy neurologist and neuroscientist. He serves as the Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Neurology and Rehabilitative Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. He is board certified in neurology and sleep medicine, treating patients with sleep and traumatic brain injury (TBI)-related neurological disorders at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and in the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE). He also serves as the Director of Research of the WRNMMC Sleep Disorders Center. He founded the SWORD (Sleep and Wearables research for Operational Readiness and Deployment) Lab (www.swordusuhs.org), dedicated to modulating sleep neurophysiology to enhance human performance and treat diseases such as TBI and post-traumatic stress disorder. Prior to his medical and neuroscience training at Johns Hopkins, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy and deployed as a Surface Warfare Officer onboard the USS MAHAN (DDG-72).
